Dr. habil. Gero Guttzeit currently teaches as Interim Professor of English Literature at the University of Freiburg, substituting for Professor Monika Fludernik.

Gero Guttzeit's work (PD Dr.) in Anglophone literary and cultural studies is guided by theoretical interests in authorship, character, genre, and rhetoric. He is the author of two monographs on The Figures of Edgar Allan Poe: Authorship, Antebellum Literature, and Transatlantic Rhetoric (De Gruyter 2017) and In/Visible Subjects: Literary Character and Narratives of Invisibility Since the Eighteenth Century (Palgrave 2025). He was a visiting professor at UW-Milwaukee, Freiburg, and Tübingen, and a research fellow at Ghent, Berkeley, and the Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies. He guest-edited several special issues, contributed to a number of edited collections and handbooks, and his articles have appeared in such venues as Forum for Modern Language Studies, Scholarly Editing, Études britanniques contemporaines, Children's Literature in Education, Journal for the Study of British Cultures, Anglistik, and Zeitschrift für Anglistik und Amerikanistik. He is currently at work on a short monograph on Crime Fiction and Artificial Intelligence and co-editing a Handbook of Gothic Literature, under contract with De Gruyter.
